Support For UHN
As we enter another week of online learning, it seems a good moment to reflect on our gratitude for the brave women and men who risk their lives daily, for the greater good of us all. Back on Thursday November 12th, Northmount School for Boys, led by its Student Council, participated in a walkathon to raise funds for the UHN COVID-19 Emergency Fund. Following physical distance protocols, students walked in class cohorts, alongside their teacher, from our school to Edwards Gardens and back, a 5-kilometre circuit. Our youngest students, JK-2, completed a half circuit. Though a small school of around 130 students, all of our students completed the walk with enthusiasm, knowing that the funds raised were going toward a great cause.
Merry Christmas Everyone!
What a fantastic way to head into the Christmas Break: scientists-in-school workshops, dress down day, a Beaver Tail treat, and gift basket deliveries!! From everyone at Northmount, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Christmas Party 2020!
We rounded off last week with an epic Christmas party! Even with all of the Covid protocols, the boys had an epic afternoon of scavenger hunts, crafts, games, hot chocolate, Santa's grotto and so much more!! Q&A Round Table
Click here to watch our Roundtable Q&A: Earlier this Fall we hosted a virtual "roundtable" event so that prospective parents can learn more about Northmount School. To help gain an inside perspective, we were joined by current parents, and last year's Head Boy. If you have any further questions, or wish to make an application, please do not hesitate to contact us. northmount.com
Although Covid protocols prevent us from gathering together for our daily assembly, we still come together each morning by linking our classrooms via a our Smart boards. As part of this, the boys wanted to create their own music video to be used when we sing, O'Canada. With thanks to their very talented music teacher, Mr Savidge, we are pleased to share this video with you now. We hope you enjoy!
We Shall Remember
The Northmount Community remembers all of those who have given so much. Through art, poetry, and prayer the students of Northmount learn to appreciate the sacrifices that were made for them. They also look to the future, and hope to be part of a better, more peaceful world. Lest we forget.
Student Council Elections 2020/2021
Under the guidance of Mr. Kurek, the student's of Northmount were encouraged to put themselves forward for one of the leadership positions on Student Council. These positions include: Head Boy, Deputy Head Boy, Treasurer, House Captain, and Class Representative. Regardless of the position, each of these roles comes with much responsibility. The campaign trail involved the production of posters and videos, live speeches, debates and Q&A sessions. Throughout all of this it was clear that no matter what the outcome, our Student Council would be in very good hands! Well done to all involved!
Virtual Awards for the 2019 2020 Academic Year
We were thrilled to be able to proceed with a virtual Awards Ceremony, postponed from June due to Covid, to celebrate the wonderful achievements of the Northmount Student's for the 2019-2020 academic year. Regardless of who won what, we are proud of each and everyone of the students who come to school each day to try their best! Well done to all of the winners - great job. A special shout out to Matt, Sachin, Miguel and Roy on their overall Leadership and Service Awards.
Fall Art and Tie Dye
The Fall is such a beautiful time of the year! Under the direction of our terrific Art teacher, Mrs. Del Grosso, the boys have been working on some amazing projects already. The tie-dye was particularly popular, especially when we got to have school wide tie-dye dress down day!!
2020 – 2021 Knighting Ceremony
At Northmount School for Boys, our House System is the backbone for creating, maintaining, and fostering a close-knit community across all grade levels. At the beginning of the academic year, new students are inducted into one of the four Houses of which they remain a part of throughout their Northmount tenure. This year was slightly different to ensure Covid protocols were followed. None-the-less, House Master Kurek welcomed 30 new Northmount Knights from JK to Grade 7.
We are thrilled to have reopened our doors for full-time in class learning. The day begins with a health screening and welcome by senior staff. Students then enter the building via multiple entrances, depending on their cohort, where a teacher ensures they have their masks on and hands sanitized before proceeding to class. Each cohort is kept separate via one way traffic flow in the halls, designated recess areas, and classrooms used by only one grade group. All student seating is spaced 6ft from their closest peer and all have sneeze guards around their desks. For more info on our safe return during Covid, please see further details in the previous post.
COVID-19 School Re-Opening Plan
Northmount School for Boys Re-opening, September 8th, 2020 Introduction: The following document identifies policies and procedures for Northmount School for Boys, which are intended to keep all of students, faculty, staff, volunteers, visitors and families as safe as possible as we re-open schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to get to this point, there has been a lot of hard work done by our families and the broader community to adhere to the government restrictions that have been a part of our reality for the past several months. It is equally important to note that all of this hard work will be for naught if we do not continue to socially distance, remain faithful to our social bubbles and take every precaution to stay healthy and safe. With the help of parents, faculty, staff and administration, the policies and procedures contained in this document are a community effort with the sole intention of keeping us all safe. As such, the following pages reflect the guidelines and health and safety protocols that have been highlighted by government and health officials. Due to the nature of COVID-19, this School Re-Opening Plan can be considered a working document that can be adjusted as needed. As such, it is hoped that this plan provides a common sense approach to the re-opening of Northmount School for Boys.
School Closure: Covid-19
Due to the rapidly changing situation regarding the Covid-19 virus, Northmount's physical facility is currently closed. Please continue reading for a statement from our Headmaster, Dr. Sheridan: Dear Northmount Parents, I hope this message finds all of our families mentally, physically and spiritually healthy and safe. Though I am sure we are all experiencing a sense of “cabin fever”, our efforts to social distance and flatten the COVID curve have helped provide optimism that we are heading in the right direction. On behalf of the Northmount community, I want to thank all of the First Responders and Frontline Workers in our community who have helped all of us navigate through these unprecedented times. I am also thankful for all of the families in our community for their support of Northmount, especially over the past seven weeks. Though this pandemic has not been easy on anyone, and harder on some than others, it is my hope that families have taken this time and spent it together in order to strengthen bonds and truly reflect on what is important.
The Knight's Basketball Team are having a fantastic season so far with back to back victories last week. They are hoping for further strong performances under the leadership of Team Captain Sachin and our terrific coaches Mr. Douglas and Mr. Kurek. Go Knights Go!
